CLARKSON – The Shelby Lady Huskies entered sub-districts still looking for their first win of the season last Monday, October 29th. They gave it their best shot, but would fall short to Newman Grove in the opening round of the D1-5 tourney. The Lady Huskies would win the first game 25-21, but fell to the Lady Jays in the final three games 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.
Ficke Janssen had a good night at the net as she led the Lady Huskies with 14 kills. Kristen Chadek added seven kills while Robin Haase and Joce Hopkins pounded four kills apiece. Brooke Micek finished with two kills. Kelsey Hoffman and Jordann Scow had one kill apiece.
Chadek, Haase, and Hopkins had one stuff block apiece. Lindsay Coffin led in digs with a team high 15. Alicia Humlicek added five digs while Haase, Hopkins, Kim Topil, and Sylvia DeLancey had three digs apiece. Janssen and Micek both came up with one dig.
In the serving department, Coffin had two aces to lead Shelby. Hoffman, Scow, Humlicek, and Topil all served one ace in the match. Hoffman led in setting with 32 assists.
The Lady Huskies end the season with a 0-24 record even though they played one of their better matches of the season. Newman Grove would lose to eventual state qualifier Humphrey St. Francis in the second round of subdistricts. The Lady Jays had a 11-14 season record.
