Koinzan, Thompson Reign at Swedish Festival -

The Midsommar Swedish Festival royalty for 2008 is Queen Cinda Koinzan and King Dave Thompson. Members of their royal court are (L to R) Garret Miller, Isaac Noyd, Shea Corwin and Maddie Portwine.

Cinda Koinzan and David Thompson were crowned the 2008 Midsommar
Swedish Festival King and Queen Friday evening, June 20th in the town
square in Stromsburg. The 2007 royalty, King Timm Waller and Queen
Sharon Noyd passed their capes and crowns to the new honorees.
Members of the 2008 royal court are Garrett Miller, son of Grant and
Amy Miller; Isaac Noyd, son of Charles and Neeli Noyd; Maddie Portwine,
daughter of Greg and Stacy Portwine and Shea Corwin, daughter of Brian
and Heidi Corwin.
Cinda’s husband Dennis, also a former Swedish Festival King. . . .

Tim Stanton Named Honorary Swede -

The family of the late Tim Stanton graciously accept the Honorary Swede award on his behalf.

The Honorary Swede at the Swedish Festival is a recognition given to a
person who grew up in the Stromsburg community, but who has spent most
or all of their adult life in a location other than here, and who has
made significant contributions in their professional, business, civic,
community and religious life.
This year’s Honorary Swede award went to Tim Stanton, son of Bud and
the late Lola Mae Stanton of Stromsburg, and was presented to his
family posthumously. . . .

Super Swede Award Presented to Nyle Larson -

Nyle Larson of Stromsburg was presented with the Super Swede award Friday evening.

Nyle Larson was born in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Chester and Nina
Larson. He was blessed with two sisters, Lucille and Marcella and is a
special uncle to four nieces and two nephews and many great nieces and
nephews. Unlike the rest of us, arriving in a birthday suit, Nyle was
born with a ‘Red Cornhusker Suit’. That suit has changed over the
years into many different colors and styles but always with the Husker
emblem. . . .

FEMA Visits Polk County Flood Victims -

FEMA team members walk door to door to talk to residents with flood damage. Mischelle Hancock of 461 N. Valley in Osceola explains to the team about losing all of her children's keepsakes, something that can never be replaced, as her basement filled with eight feet of flood waters.

Polk County was visited by an eight member team from FEMA. They were
here to access the damage from the recent flooding. The team split up
between the communities of Polk, Stromsburg, Osceola and Shelby
visiting homes which had potential flood damage. They went door to door
talking with residents. . . .

Joint Library Proposal Passes in Shelby -

The Joint Library Committee, made up of members from the Shelby School
Board, the Shelby Public Library and the Village Board of Shelby held
an open forum meeting at the high school library on Monday evening,
June 16.
Shelby Superintendent, Larry Stick opened the forum by first explaining
how the idea of joining the public library and the school library
together came about. The number of Shelby elementary students rose in
the last school year. . . .
