Tomasevicz Wins Gold!!! -

Shelby takes pride in hometown athlete

Shelby fans filled local businesses as they cheered Curt and Team Holcomb on to victory. Over 150 people packed inside A & B and around 100 filled the Shelby Hotel and watched the race.

It wasn't just the win that made the Shelby fans proud.
It was all about the athlete.

Shelby supporters, nearly all 690 of them, gathered in the streets of
town last Saturday evening to show their support and watch their
hometown favorite, Curtis Tomasevicz win the gold in the 4-man bobsled
race at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. . . .

Stromsburg Swimming Pool to be Closed for 2010 -

The Stromsburg City Council in cooperation with the City Park Board
held an informational meeting at the Cross County High School on Monday
evening to discuss the most current situation with the city swimming
pool in Buckley Park. The decision has been made not to open the pool
this year. There have been significant obstacles to overcome the last
few years to get the pool functioning in a way that meets the criteria
set down by state and federal statutes. The repair issues have come to
a point where it is no longer feasible to fix the problems that would
allow the pool to pass government inspection. . . .

Rising City School Merger Decision Deadlocked -

Last year, the Rising City school board began entertaining proposals to
merge with either David City or Shelby. Recently, the district asked
Shelby and David City school boards to send updated proposals again.
The board decided to turn to residents after its members tied twice on
merger proposals last week. First a merger with Shelby was proposed,
then David City. Both measures tied 3-3. . . .

Last Thursday evening the BryanLGH Trauma Center honored Elisabeth Lemp
and Derek Ruth as trauma survivors along with the professionals
involved in saving their lives at a banquet at the Nebraska Champions
Club in Lincoln. Elisabeth and Derek were honored for being survivors
of extremely difficult trauma events. The emergency personnel, along
with physicians, nurses, physical therapists and all other aspects of
health professionals and support staff who had a part in the care and
recovery of Elisabeth and Derek were honored as BryanLGH’s 2010 Trauma
Champions. . . .

50-Year Married Couples Enjoy Sweetheart Banquet -

Jack and Judy Anderson were the newest couple welcomed into the group as they celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.

Clayton and Margaret Taylor were recognized as the longest married couple, as they celebrated their 68th anniversary on February 14.

Twenty three couples who have reached 50 or more years of marriage
enjoyed the 18th annual community Sweetheart Banquet held on Monday,
February 15, 2010. The evening was spent in the beautifully decorated
dining room of the Covenant Church.
Pastor John Dale welcomed the group and gave the invocation. A delectable dinner was prepared by the Covenant ladies. . . .
