Dr. Tom Osborne has graciously accepted the invitation to kick-off the Shelby/Rising City TeamMates Youth Mentoring Program, on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Shelby Legion Hall.  The TeamMates Mentoring Program was founded in 1991 by former University of Nebraska Head Football Coach Tom Osborne and his wife Nancy.
TeamMates data collection shows that mentoring works. 45% of all TeamMates youth experience an increase in academic improvement, 80% experience a decrease in disciplinary referrals, and 89% experience improved attendance at school once they are matched with a TeamMates mentor.
The first big event for TeamMates will be the annual red/white Spring game at Memorial Stadium, April 14 at 1:00pm. Join the sea of red at Memorial Stadium and enjoy the game! TeamMates chapters will sit in a block of seats and will have the opportunity to go on the field at half-time for the drug-free pledge.
Mentoring includes a time commitment of one hour per week.  All mentoring is done on school grounds, during school hours.  The overall mission of the mentoring program is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring.
