Stromsburg swimming pool patrons and citizens of Stromsburg in support of a new pool are encouraged to send the old structure out with style by attending a Graffiti Party fundraiser on Friday, September 17th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Stromsburg Swimming Pool in Buckley Park. A hamburger meal will also be served.
The going-away party is sponsored by the Stromsburg Park & Recreation Foundation and the Park Board.
Members of the Stromsburg Park & Recreation Foundation include Minnie Anderson, Kurth DeLand, Colleen Pallas and Marsha Yungdahl. Stromsburg Park Board members are Dan Cramer, Paul Dravitzki, Margie Berggren, Jerilyn Barber and Cheri Giannou.
For a $10 donation, you will receive 3 cans of spray paint and a patch of concrete in which to "tastefully" decorate as you wish. Judges will be on hand to critique the various "artwork" on the bottom and sides of the existing pool.
The old swimming pool structure needs to be torn down by November 15, 2010. Bids will be accepted in January or February, 2011 for construction on the new pool project.
To date, over $17,000 has been received in donations, including a grant for $5,000 from the Abel Foundation. Additional funding from other grants is still in the works.
Donations are desperately needed in order to give children and adults in Stromsburg the new pool they so deserve for generations to come.
The City of Stromsburg has committed $1.7 million towards the new pool project—the remainder of the cost will need to be supplemented by donations.
Please come and bid farewell to the former swimming pool, which has brought so much joy and summer entertainment to people of all ages for many years.
For more information on the Graffiti party, contact Cheri Giannou at 764-4702.
If you wish to make a donation please make your check payable to “Polk County Foundation-Stromsburg Park Fund” and mail to City of Stromsburg, Attn:  Nancy Bryan, PO Box 407, Stromsburg, NE 68666-0407.
