Jan Noyd of Shelby has been hired as the new Polk County Senior Services Manager. She began her new position December 27, 2011.
"I absolutely love my new job," Noyd commented. "It's awesome!"
Jan brings a wealth of health service experience to Polk County and the area senior centers. She has been an LPN for 18 years and has been employed with the East Central District Health Department in Columbus for the past 10 years.
During her tenure in Columbus, Jan has managed/coordinated many different public health services. She has served as maternal child health coordinator, a vaccine for children coordinator, and she has educated the public on West Nile virus prevention and youth substance abuse prevention, to name just a few. Jan took the lead during the H1N1 pandemic and helped give the flu vaccine to over 10,000 residents in a four-county area. She also served as an infectious disease surveillance nurse at East Central for 5 years.
In her previous position, Jan was responsible for writing grants and managing budgets and staff, working with a lot of people on the state level. "I feel my experience with public health helped prepare me for this position," Jan added.
Jan was ready for a change from public health and is excited about finally working in Polk County. "I'm anxious to get to know more people in Polk County and hopefully contribute as a citizen," Jan said.
Jan and her husband, Gary reside in Shelby. They have four daughters—Sara in North Platte, Tracey in Fremont, Lindsey in Osceola and Deana in Des Moines, IA. They also have three granddaughters—Danielle, Domonique and Allie, and are expecting a new granddaughter to be born on Friday, February 10th, and she will be named Brielle.
Jan hopes to bring some new ideas to the senior services program and is proud to be able to serve the greatest generation of people in the world. She appreciates the Polk County Commissioners for allowing her this opportunity.
