Nebraska’s Polish Olympic Gold medalist, Curtis Tomasevicz, from Shelby Nebraska, is the recipient of the 2010 Spirit Award given by the Farwell Athletic Club. This annual F.A.C. award goes to an individual living an exemplary life in the areas of Faith, Attitude and Community.
Nebraska’s 1st Winter Olympics medalist will be honored during the intermission of the 1st Annual Farwell Athletic Club Ball Saturday, June 12th in the school gym. This public dance (7:30-11) is open to all from 1 to 101. The Czech Friends Band will be playing and vintage/era attire is welcomed at this event also honoring the 200th anniversary of the famed Polish composer, Frederic Chopin’s birth. This weekend celebration is a school/ town, all class get-together.
Saturday, NOON-MIDNIGHT, on display will be photos and memorabilia from the Farwell Fencebusters and the Sherman-Howard Baseball League. During the league’s 50 years of existence, over 40 different teams played in it.
Sunday, St. Anthony’s, the oldest Polish Catholic Church West of the Mississippi, will be celebrating their Feast Day with a church service at 10:30, followed by a potluck. At 2:00 pm, the FenceBusters will take on the Ord Tigers, after they “appear out of the cornfield” in a game of vintage ball.
