Amy Peterson, Extension Educator in Polk County with UNL and Tanya Crawford, former Extension Assistant in Platte County, were honored recently at the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA) 65th annual conference in Omaha, Nebraska. Peterson and Crawford were among over 900 4-H youth development professionals from across the nation to participate in the association’s 65th annual conference.
Each year, the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA) recognizes members for their 4-H/Extension work by presenting awards for outstanding accomplishments in achievement, leadership, service and communication.  Peterson was honored with the NAE4-HA for Meritorious Service.  Nominees for this award must have completed 15 years of service and demonstrated innovative youth programming and leadership in the NAE4-HA Association at the state, regional and/or national level.  Crawford was honored with the  NAE4-HA for Achievement in Service Award.  Nominees for this award must have completed 3 – 7 years of service.  Recipients may only receive these service awards once in their professional career.
NAE4-HA is a globally recognized, culturally diverse network for 4-H youth development professionals. Membership is open to local, regional, state or national Cooperative Extension staff members who work with 4-H youth programs. Membership in this organization provides opportunities for professional recognition and awards at the state, regional and national level; travel and educational scholarships and grants; opportunity to attend the annual NAE4-HA conference featuring professional improvement seminars, poster sessions , research papers and exhibits; and leadership development opportunities through association leadership positions and leadership development conferences.
The conference theme was “ Head, Hands, Health in the Heartland.” The conference allowed 4-H/Extension Youth Development Professionals the opportunity to learn innovative, up-to-date educational information, methods and techniques, exchange ideas, and to promote cooperation among all Extension personnel.
Peterson was also recently installed as President  at the National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences  (NEAFCS) 2011  annual session, “Guiding Extension Professionals through the Route of Empowerment” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With almost 2,000 members across the United States, NEAFCS educates and recognizes Extension professionals who impact the quality of life for individuals, families and communities and is the only professional association serving the unique needs of family and consumer science educators working in the Extension system.
Peterson has previously served on the NEAFCS National Board as Vice President of Awards and Recognition, Central Region Director, and President-Elect. “I have enjoyed working with my colleagues across the United States for Extension and our Land Grant University Systems”, said Peterson. “I am looking forward to this next exciting challenge as we look towards how Family and Consumer Sciences impact all of our lives – through the health of our children, our families, and our finances.”
