Dr. Melissa Girard-Lemons of Grand Island was installed as President of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) for the year 2012 at the Association’s recently completed 116th Annual Convention in Omaha, January 26-28.
Missy is a native Nebraskan, born in Osceola. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1999. She immediately started her career in small animal medicine at the Animal Medical Clinic in Grand Island, Nebraska, which she now owns and operates.
Missy is one of the consulting rotational veterinarians for the Central Nebraska Humane Society and also served on the City of Grand Island Animal Advisory Board. Additionally, she has served as President, as well as chaired various committees of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic women’s organization. She also served as the President of the Jack Rabbit Run Municipal Golf Course women’s league and as Vice President of the Prairie Pioneer Quilt Guild, evidencing leadership even in her hobbies.
Missy has been involved with the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association for the last 12 years. She has served as District V Director, Director at Large, and has chaired the NVMA Scholarship Committee for several years. She is also active in the NVMA mentoring program.
Missy is married to husband Tim Lemons and they reside in Grand Island, Nebraska.
