The Shelby Library Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of a generous donation in memory of Imogene Brigham by her four children: Bill Brigham of Shelby, Jimmy Brigham of Palm City, FL, Beverly Huber of Savage, MN and Diana Beaudoin of Lincoln, MA. The naming-rights donation received from the Brigham family reserved the young adult reading section of the new Shelby Community Library in memory of Imogene who instilled a love of reading in her children.
In addition to the financial gift, Diana Beaudoin also gifted to the Shelby Library Foundation a brass sculpture of a little boy and girl reading a book on a part bench. The sculpture stands roughly 24 inches X 36 inches and will be placed in the foyer of the new Community Library once the library is completed in late August. The sculpture was unveiled on Thursday, June 18th at the Shelby Lumber Company where it was received from a New York City art warehouse after Ms. Beaudoin purchased it weeks ago. On hand for the unveiling were members of the Brigham family: Bill, Jimmy, Beverly Huber with husband Gary, Diana Beaudoin with husband Jacques Cohen and Joint Library Committee members Larry Stick, Shelby Public Schools Superintendent; Dr. Nitha White and Teri Logan, Shelby Public Library board members.
The Shelby Library Foundation is currently accepting donations towards the shelving fixtures of the new building, however several naming opportunities remain available. If you are interested in contributing to this fund, please send your donation to the Shelby Library Foundation, P.O. Box 146, Shelby, NE 68662.
