OSCEOLA—Annie Jeffrey Health Center has received a $10,000 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska to help fund Snowman Marathon, a wellness program for Polk County residents.
A check presentation will be held Thursday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the County Fair Community Awards Night in Osceola. The public is invited to attend. Representatives from Annie Jeffrey Health Center and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska will discuss the impact of the grant and the Snowman Marathon.
Annie Jeffrey Health Center started the Snowman Marathon two and a half years ago as a way to motivate the community to get healthy. Since then, numerous lives have been changed.
Taking place in the winter, the Snowman Marathon is a health marathon. The program is designed to help establish a routine of regular exercise and healthy eating by setting weekly goals, providing nutrition information and keeping participants motivated with fun and prizes.
Components of the Snowman Marathon include a health risk assessment, health screenings and free use of Wellness Center exercise equipment at the Health Center.
The grant, called the BlueHealth Advantage Wellness Grant, will help cover the costs of lab tests, use of the wellness equipment, advertising and other expenses. It is one of nine BlueHealth grants awarded to Nebraska organizations.
In its third year, the grants program reflects the commitment of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska to support health and wellness programs across the state.
