50 Year Couples Enjoy Sweetheart Banquet

The 20th annual community Sweetheart Banquet for couples who have been married 50 years or more was held February 9, 2012 in the beautifully decorated fellowship hall of the Covenant Church. Twenty-four couples were welcomed by hosts Jack and Judy Anderson and Richard and Nancy Johnson. A delicious meal was prepared and served by the ladies of the church.
Jack Anderson emceed the program which included honoring Brooke and Wilma Berggren as the couple married the longest—66 years. Herman and Donna Gerdes were honored and welcomed into the group as they were celebrating their 50th anniversary that day. Also welcomed into the group were Bill and Jan Thompson and Fred and Mary Ann Guggenmos who have recently celebrated their 50th anniversaries.
Hostess gifts were given to the winners of a trivia quiz and to those who had red hearts on the bottom of their cups. Entertainment was enjoyed by the Peterson Sisters (plus one) who sand old familiar songs combined with a touch of humor.
Recognition was given to couples who have been married 60 years or more, namely: Verlin and Helen Johnson—65 years; Roger and Wilma Burke—62 years; Morris and Jerlene Nielsen—62 years; Mike and Wanda Larson—61 years; Jim and Elaine Ekstrand—61 years; Wilber and Claris Falk—61 years; Don and Clarice Baker—60 years; Carl and Lottie Johnson—60 years; and Vernon and Lois Behr—60 years.
