The High Plains Storm took on the Hampton Hawks in the conference tournament last week. The Storm put up a valiant effort through constant Hampton defensive pressure and ended up just 5 points short to lose 59-54.
High Plains came into the first quarter by keeping pace with the Hawks. High Plains ended the quarter in the lead 11-9. In the second quarter Hampton began to find success with their full court pressure and kept the Storm from getting to the basket. The Hawks led at halftime 28-19.
The third quarter was another strong defensive effort by both teams. The Storm scored all nine of their points in the quarter off three point shots by Becky Kobza with two and Hannah Lott made one. In the fourth quarter the Storm made a run to close the gap to 3 points with 33 seconds left in the game but ended up not being able to get the ball close enough to the basket in the final seconds to tie things up. At the very end they would fall five points short.
