The Shelby Huskies traveled to Johnson, Nebraska to take on the Johnson-Brock Eagles in second round D-1 football playoff action Wednesday, Nov. 4th. The Huskies lost to the Eagles 58 - 20.
Shelby received the ball at the opening kickoff and had success moving  down the field. Once they got to the red zone the drive stalled,  and they were forced to turn the ball over to Johnson-Brock. The Eagles scored on an option play that went 48 yards on a run by Clint Damme.
The rest of the first half would be characterized by the same pattern. Shelby would find ways to move the ball in to Eagle territory, but they would have difficulty once they came within 15 yards of the goal line. Seth Hoffman did break off a nice 41 yard run in the second quarter to score the only Shelby points in the first half.
The second half the Huskies put the ball in the air to try and make up the deficit. Derek Swanson scored in the third quarter on a 15 yard pass from Jake Hopwood. Swanson scored again in the fourth on a 45 yard pass from Hopwood. Statistically, the game was closer than the score would indicate. Shelby had 15 first downs compared to 11 for Johnson-Brock. The Huskies finished with 357 total yards compared to the Eagles 440. In the end the Eagles were able to maintain an edge in field position and a ball control offense that allowed them to run the clock and seal the second round victory.
The Huskies did have a great run this season, winning all but one of their regular season games, while spending most of the season rated in the top five.
