On Friday, April 4 the State FFA Degree was awarded to 480 Nebraska members during the final session of the Nebraska State FFA Convention. Three of ten requirements for this were: earning 500 FFA Leadership Points for activities, earning at least $3000(some unpaid hours may be substituted) in an ag-related career field, and submitting balanced financial records for the last two years of membership.
2008 Osceola recipients were Amanda Gabel, Brandon Gabel, Jason Haack, Anthony Hanson, Kristi Kresha, Amanda Neujahr and Seth Peterson.
The ladies were the first females from our chapter to receive the State Degree. Amanda Gabel and Kristi Kresha were also the first graduate members to receive the award.
In Ag Ed contests:
The Agronomy team of Ashley Drott, Brandon Gabel, Jason Haack and Kyler LeSuer scored among the top half of 226 contestants and Jason received a purple ribbon for his 12th place finish.
Taylor Meysenburg and Jordan Zahm represented the chapter in Agriscience. They each had to dissect and label the parts of a grasshopper as well as figure out a math problem dealing with the “Law of Diminishing Returns”.
Jacob Fleischmann and Nick Juracek earned red and white ribbons respectively in the Meats Judging contest. Andew Jochem finished out the team score.
In Natural Resources, Cody Stowe and Shelby Sterup brought home blue and white ribbons. Finishing in third place for Osceola was Kramer Watts. These three students were part of the District V champion team in March.
Shelby Sterup and Amanda Neujahr attended Equine Evaluation training and all students were required to complete a business session and leadership workshop for each day of attendance.
Other awards:
Amanda Neujahr was the first Osceola FFA member to participate in speaking contests at State FFA. Her efforts brought home a bronze medal in the Job Interview division.
The chapter was recognized with a Bronze Chapter Rating for activities conducted during the year and also named one of the top ten Natural Resource chapters in the state.
Nineteen Osceola FFA members joined over 3000 others from around the state to compete in the annual convention and contests held in Lincoln Wednesday April 2 to Friday April 4. The event recognizes the achievements of Nebraska FFA chapters and brings members together for ag ed contests, speaking demonstrations, leadership seminars and motivational speakers.
The year 2008 marked the 80th year for FFA in Nebraska so special recognition was given to former members, including past state officers.
There are over 6000 Nebraska FFA members in 133 chapters across the state.
